Overall Security Tips
Remember - Just because your anti-virus or malware scanner says you:
- "Are infected" does not make it true, if it is a poor scanner
- "Are not infected" does not mean you are not, again ... if its a poor scanner
Free Antivirus Scanners
Malware and Rootkit Scanners
This does not count all the smaller, specialty scanners, by the way
Emsisoft use to have a more basic version of their paid offering, for free but I am having issues finding that now. STILL THAT DOESN'T MATTER.... along with Hitman Pro and Zemana, I have seen the same people 100% trust Emsisoft for a second opinion scanner too.
* Just note that I have seen people say this can not run if you have Kasperksy installed because it may conflict with the driver or some service that Kaspersky runs.
Specific Scanners/Misc Tools
(not always needed, but I for instance have updated copies of all of these "just in case"). These can be used to help clean, badly infected computers:
ComboFix
I have seen ComboFix, first-hand help computers that were badly infected; new users, should only use this if reformatting SEEMS like the only hope, after MalwareBytes "failed'. Note: At that time I had no idea about RKill (listed below) so instead of running Combofix, running RKill THEN Malwarebytes, may have worked as wellRKill2020 note: I am not sure how useful this is in Windows 10, or if this is even updated anymore
